Class Begins Now

“Even if your Grandfather dies,
You know when he’ll be buried.
Not when he dies,
But when…”
Dying, death, dies…
And he was sitting right there in the front row,
The man whose mother just died.
The classmate who will miss class,
Get the excused absence(s).

Life just does that,
Professors just say that,
Because people just die
Right in the middle, second semester,
First semester, graduation,
Summer abroad, Christmas,
New Year’s Day,
It just goes on
Amidst the pain, the sorrows,
And the hearts that still beat, beat
And the mind can stop.
Or keep going.

After the excused absences, though,
After the grieving and the saying goodbye.
